Overview:

Amnesty International is offering an 18-month part-time fellowship focused on exploring the global challenge of shrinking civic space and documenting grassroots resistance strategies from marginalized voices. The fellowship will contribute to developing new knowledge on civic space restrictions, emerging resistance movements, and practical tools to defend civic space worldwide.

Fellowship Goals:

  • Investigate trends in civic space restrictions and resistance movements.
  • Support grassroots activists and human rights defenders in documenting and analyzing resistance strategies against authoritarianism.
  • Develop recommendations and practical tools to guide Amnesty’s global advocacy on civic space.
  • Produce regular blog posts, opinion pieces, and an in-depth think-piece for internal strategy.
  • Convene activists and thought leaders to share insights and collaborate on new strategies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English (additional regional language fluency desirable).
  • Proven experience in working on civic space resistance through academia, NGOs, journalism, law, or grassroots activism.
  • Strong research and writing skills, with a portfolio of work related to civic space and human rights.
  • No formal academic qualifications are required.
